What is the difference between aluminum wire transformers and copper wire transformers?
Some people say that the aluminum transformer is not easy to be damaged, but the aluminum wire transformer purchased by our company has been used for the longest 7 or 8 years without any problems. For a purchase, the key aluminum wire transformer is much cheaper than the copper wire transformer, I am a little confused, why is the good thing so cheap?
It is generally believed that copper has better electrical conductivity, higher mechanical strength, higher thermal conductivity and higher price than aluminum. This is also true. It is also true that aluminum is more active and easily oxidized. Using copper as the transformer winding makes the volume of the whole transformer smaller and saves the installation location.
The most prominent thing is that the transformer’s ability to resist short circuit is stronger, that is to say, the dynamic stability and thermal stability of the transformer are also stronger. Of course, this is relative. As long as the aluminum winding transformer pays attention to this problem in electromagnetic calculation and structural design, it can also ensure that its dynamic and thermal stability performance meets the requirements of national standards.
In fact, whether the transformer uses copper wire or aluminum wire, the cross-sectional area of the iron core is the same, and there will be no change. Only the volume of the transformer is a little different. The volume of the aluminum wire transformer is relatively large, and the volume of the copper wire transformer is smaller.
There is also a difference in cost. The price of aluminum wire transformers is low, and the price of copper wire transformers is high. Aluminum wire transformers can save production costs.
